DEL MAR, CA – On the 40th anniversary of National Racing Hall of Fame Jockey Fernando Toro’s memorable Breeders’ Cup Mile win aboard Royal Heroine (IRE), jockey agent Ronald T. Anderson collected his 42nd when Joel Rosario crossed the finish line first in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Del Mar.

Mr. Anderson has been a jocks agent for the past 52 years and has handled the book for many of the greats from Toro to Gary Stevens, Jerry Bailey, Garrett Gomez, Joel Rosario, John Velazquez and Lanfranco “Frankie” Dettori to name a few.

His riders have won the Breeders’ Cup Classic five times – 2005 (Bailey, Saint Liam), 2010 (Gomez, Blame), 2018 (Rosario, Accelerate), 2020 (Velazquez, Authentic), and 2021 (Rosario, Knicks Go). Other notable wins were the 1998 Juvenile Fillies (Stevens, Silverbulletday), 2007-2008 Sprints (Gomez, Midnight Lute), 2019 Filly/Mare Sprint (Rosario, Covfefe) and 2022 Distaff (Velazquez, Malathaat).

Five of Anderson’s riders have combined to win 13 Triple Crown race including five Kentucky Derbies – 1995 (Stevens, Thunder Gulch), 1997 (Stevens, Silver Charm), 1999 (Chris Antley, Charismatic), 2013 (Rosario, Orb) and 2020 (Velazquez, Authentic).

Anderson has lined up riders to win the prestigious Dubai World Cup four times starting in 1998 (Stevens, Silver Charm), and in 2001 (Bailey, Captain Steve), 2002 (Bailey, Street Cry (IRE)) and 2013 (Rosario, Animal Kingdom).

Jockey agents are a very integral part of our great game as Ron has influenced many of his riders on and off the racetrack to make them better riders and more importantly better people away from the racetrack.

Nine of the riders that Anderson worked for are now National Racing Hall of Fame members and currently represents Rosario and Dettori.

There is no better time then now to have Mr. Anderson be honored with an Eclipse Award for his outstanding achievements in Thoroughbred racing.
