It’s Mile week in the Pacific Northwest. The Longacres Mile dates back to the 1930s when first held at Longacres in Renton, WA.

One of the most storied names in NW racing is the last name Baze.

A jockey with the last name Baze has won a race in the United States every year since 1970 when Joe Baze was returning from injury. That makes 57 consecutive years! No other family name can match that record.

Earlier Tyler Baze recorded win number 3,000 on April 5 at Santa Anita. This is Tyler’s 27th year of riding.

The Baze name has landed in the Winner’s Circle over 23,000 times dating back to 1949 when Joe Baze started riding.

Joe Baze, Gary Baze, Russell Baze, Mike Baze, Dale Baze, Michael Baze, Tyler Baze and Vicky (Aragon) Baze.

The Baze clan has won EIGHT Longacres Miles led by Gary who won a record five, Russell is tied for second with three and Joe Baze won one. Everyone of the eight Bazes competed in the Longacres Mile.
